A TRIP TO THE NORTH POLE

Christmas is here! Can you believe it? The sight of Christmas decorations on display in some stores jogged my memory back to a conversation I had with my 7-year-old daughter a couple of months ago.

“Mommy, is Santa real?” she asked

“What does your heart say?” She was quiet…thinking hard.

“Well…what does Santa do for you?

“He gives kids presents.” she answered

“Yes, Santa represents the Spirit of Giving. Don’t you like to give and help others?”

“Oh yes, Santa is real in my heart!”

IS SANTA REAL IN YOUR HEARTS?

A Trip to the American Heartland: Becoming a “DAUGHTER OF AMERICA” on 9/11

When do you truly bond with your adopted country? Is it when you first set foot on its land or after you’ve been legally adopted with naturalization certificate in hand? It’s hard to know the specific time.

For me, the terrible events of 9/11 pierced my heart and spirit deeply. I remember feeling very sad, fearful, angry and violated, but despite all the negative emotions that raged inside of me, 9/11 marked a special day in my life in my adopted country! 9/11 WAS THE DAY I FELT HOW IT WAS LIKE TO BE TRULY AMERICAN!

Have you thought about your next travel destination yet? Consider the following quotes as you begin exploring “places” to go to.

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.” – Henry Miller

“Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard

As you plan your next travel, open your mind to find that “place” in your life where you can make your mark in the world!

Studies show that orphaned and abandoned children are at higher risk of severe malnutrition, high mortality rates, lower levels of school attendance, and increased likelihood of child labour (both paid and unpaid). These children are also more likely to be subjected to abuse, neglect, and exploitation, not to mention the grief of losing their parents.
